Mequitazine.
Primalan is a histamine H1 antagonist (antihistamine). It competes with histamine for the normal H1-receptor sites on effector cells of the gastrointestinal tract, blood vessels and respiratory tract. It provides effective, temporary relief of sneezing, watery and itchy eyes, and runny nose due to hay fever and other upper respiratory allergies.
Indications of Primalan:
• Allergic rhinitis.
• Hay fever.
• Periodic rhinitis.
• Urticaria.
• Pruritus.
• Eczema.
• Quincke’s edema
• Seasonal conjunctivitis
• Reactions during desensitization
• Prophylaxis for asthma.

Side effects of Primalan:
• CNS depression including slight drowsiness to deep sleep, lassitude, dizziness, incoordination.
• Headache, psychomotor impairment and antimuscarinic effects. Rarely, rashes.
• extrapyramidal effects.

• sleep and GI disturbances.

Cautions of primalan:
• Prostatic adenoma.
• Closed Angle Glaucoma.
• Paralytic ileus.
• Stenosis of the pylori.
• Myasthenia Gravis.
• Status Asthmaticus.
• Obstructive chronic broncho-pneumopath.
• Hypersensitivity to the Phenothiazines.
• concomitant MAOI therapy.
• Alcohol.
